AI Summaries
A brief overview of Dock Intelligence AI Summaries
Q: What are AI summaries?
A: Dock Health is the administrative and operational hub for organizations and the repository for rich data on tasks, workflows and important patient data. As the work in Dock gets more complex and often spans over time, the data becomes more robust and time-intensive to summarize. With the power of AI, Dock Intelligence can now quickly and completely summarize all the data in Dock to easily review, share and even write back to the EHR and other systems. Intelligenct summaries are currently available at the patient, task and workflow levels.
Q: Why introduce these summaries?
A: The Dock team collaborated with our customers to deliver these initial patient summaries to help their teams get the information they needed, faster. Two benefits surfaced from this research and development: 1) Users had the information they needed faster to make data-driven decisions, and 2) They were able to better collaborate with teammates.
Q: What do I do with the summaries?
A: Summaries can be used in your day-to-day work to help you quickly access a complete picture of the patient, task or workflow at hand. They are also great for operational meetings and care team handoffs – as they can be shared with collaborators and, at the Pro and Enterprise level, written back to the EHR.
Q: What kind of AI summaries are there?
A: Dock Intelligence features three initial summaries – each summary will gather the relevant context to ensure an accurate and comprehensive summary of the available data.
Patient Summary: Located in the patient profile, this tool summarizes all patient information and offers a variety of communication tools, i.e. share Next Steps with a colleague
Workflow Summary: Discover this tool in the list view next to the workflow name and place your cursor over the Intelligence icon for summary options
Task Summary: Located by opening the task drawer and selecting the Dock Intelligence icon for summary options surrounding the many fields within that task
Q: What data are you looking at for patient summaries?
A: When you generate a patient summary, Dock Intelligence reviews all patient context, tasks, workflows, notes, comments and files to gather a detailed image of a patient. This will be summarized as comprehensively as possible while trying to keep it concise. Please note, you will be able to select the type of summary and, if you choose, a distribution method.
Q: What data are you looking at for task summaries?
A: At the task level, Dock Intelligence will ingest data all about the task from the assignments to due dates, statuses, comments, priority and any custom data fields that are included in the task. Please note, you will be able to select from a list of summary types and, if you choose, a distribution method.
Q: What data are you looking at for workflow summaries?
A: As processes are lists of task, the workflow summary is similar to task summaries. Dock Intelligence establishes a clear picture of the chosen workflow: completed tasks, outstanding tasks, timeline and assignments. As always, patient context will be included. Please note, you will be able to select the type of summary and, if you choose, a distribution method.
Q: What are the different options for AI summary templates?
A: Template options depend on the summary type. In collaboration with our customers, we identified different use cases and content types, i.e. simple patient review, crafting a ready-to-go email, writing a clinical note back to the EHR and so forth. Here is a quick breakdown:
Patient AI summaries:
General: The default template is a comprehensive summary, including patient context and details from tasks, workflows, notes, comments and a timeline of these.
Patient Journey: A high-level patient overview that helps summarize where they may be along a care journey with details on the tasks, workflows and timelines in more of a story format versus bullet points.
Email Summary: A general summary of patient context, tasks, workflows, notes and comments written in the format of an email intended to be securely shared with a care team member.
Clinical Note: A concise summary of the clinical context of the patient and relevant details from tasks, workflows, comments, notes and files intended to be crafted as a clinical or communication note written back to the EHR. This can be copied and pasted into a note in the EHR or posted automatically. This feature is connected with your EHR through Dock’s professional services.
One Liner: As those in healthcare know, a one-liner Is meant to quickly and easily digest details is the most accurate and succinct way. This summary is a brief statement of patient details and the work being done on their behalf in Dock.
Next Steps: As with any good clinical encounter, the assessment and plan has clear next steps for the patient and the care team. This template strives to quickly summarize the to-dos that need to be addressed.
Q: What does Dock Intelligence cost and where do I buy it?
A: Today, Dock Intelligence (beta) is only available via free trial. We are thrilled to offer these initial tools to all users for free during this trial program ending in Q2 ’25. As we learn from its use and continue to improve upon its accuracy and value to our users, AI summaries and additional AI features will be rolled into a Dock Intelligence solution. Sign up for more details as they become available.
Q: Why does it take a few seconds to load the AI summary?
A: AI summaries gather data from tasks, workflows, notes, comments and patient context across the entire Dock Health platform. This user-generated action then requests Dock to collect and summarize a vast data set. Our HIPAA-compliant large language model (LLM) processes and summarizes the set, and presents the information based on the template type you select. We will continue to improve upon the user experience, with the goal of our LLM processing to accelerate as the technology rapidly advances.
Q: Where do I find the patient summary tools in Dock?
A: Located in the patient profile, this tool summarizes all patient information and offers a variety of communication tools, i.e. share Next Steps with a colleague.
Q: Where do I find the workflow summary tools in Dock?
A: Discover this tool in the list view next to the workflow name and place your cursor over the Intelligence icon for summary options.
Q: Where do I find the task summary tools in Dock?
A: Located by opening the task drawer and selecting the Dock Intelligence icon for summary options at the top of the task drawer.
Q: How does Dock Intelligence improve task and workflow management?
A: Dock’s initial AI-powered summaries are meant to quickly and completely communicate the pertinents details across related fields, so you can be more productive with greater ease. The vision for Dock Intelligence is to grow in capabilities and impacts for our users – please find more information on our roadmap here.
Q: How does Dock Intelligence work with EHR systems?
A: Dock Pro and Enterprise customers that have integrated our platform with their EHR can post summary notes back to their EHR (if available by the EHR vendor). To turn on this feature or to inquire about connecting your EHR, please speak with the Dock Crew.
Q: How can I trust this new AI with my patient information and lives?
A: Dock is the only foundationally HIPAA-compliant and HITRUST-certified productivity platform. We take security very seriously, and have leveraged other HIPAA-compliant partners to ensure compliance across actions on and from our platform. That being said, the AI-powered summaries are inferences of the information within your Dock workspace. Our platform isn’t training on the data and the summary information in its basic form only streamlines knowledge. The tools enable you to manage and surface your data in more succinct ways.
Q: I don’t like the summary, how do I get a new one?
A: If you aren’t satisfied with the summary as provided, first determine if you’re looking for a different template type. If necessary, select a new template type. When ready, select the “regenerate” arrow function for a new summary. We will be continuing to refine our templates and do expect to eventually allow users to create their own templates. Please leave feedback and feature requests HERE.
Q: Is sending the summary secure?
A: Dock’s platform is HIPAA-compliant and HITRUST-certified. Dock complies with encrypted email policies, leveraging Paubox to deliver outside summary emails. However, the user must ensure the email recipient is the intended recipient and should be aware that email is a potential source of PHI exposure. Users should always be careful about sending PHI via email.
Q: Why is AI necessary in Dock? It seems like you’re trying to replace our team.
A: Healthcare is always human, paperwork isn’t. We believe healthcare providers are the only defensible element of care – the people, relationships, and other aspects that AI can’t easily replicate. The goal of Dock Intelligence is to alleviate the cumbersome administrative burden, and make more space for higher-value patient-care activities.
Q: How was Dock Intelligence developed?
A: To securely develop Dock Intelligence, our team leverages existing LLM technologies to generate and provide users with an intelligent summary. Leaning on the desires and requests of our customer testers, we developed Dock Intelligence to provide better insights in terms of your patient and operations.
Q: What makes Dock Intelligence different from other AI solutions?
A: The foundational goal of Dock Intelligence is to deliver a better understanding of patient care and a better way to complete the work associated with their journey. Our focus is to enable teams with more intelligent tools that surface insights and help drive more-informed decisions. All of this can be done within the industry’s only HIPAA-compliant and HITRUST-certified productivity platform, where humans work with the support of AI.
Q: How can I turn off this AI feature?
A: AI might not be a right fit for you right now. To learn more or to opt out, please reach out to our Dock Crew.
